The History of Cat Care Clinic

Cat Hospital in Ormond Beach, FLCat Care Clinic is proud to be the first and only cat-exclusive hospital in Ormond Beach, FL, a journey that began more than 15 years ago. The practice was founded in 2000 by Dr. Leslie Nixon and her husband, John Nixon, in a small shopping strip on Granada Boulevard, just around the corner from our current location on Yonge Street. Since then, we have been dedicated to providing compassionate, specialized veterinary care exclusively to cats.

We opened our doors with just three employees, but over the years, our practice grew. We soon realized it was time to make a move, so in 2005 we relocated to a brand new, 4,000 square foot purpose-built facility. Our new facility allowed us to accommodate more patients, staff, and equipment. Cat Care Clinic is now staffed with 12 team members (three veterinarians, six veterinary assistants, two receptionists, and a practice manager). We also expanded our services to include ultrasound, echocardiography, endoscopy, laser surgery, therapy laser, acupuncture, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, and in-house laboratory (for faster test results).

In 2004 Dr. Nixon became board-certified in feline medicine by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. She is one of only three veterinarians in the state of Florida to earn this certification. In addition to being staffed with one of the only feline practice board-certified veterinarians in Florida, Cat Care Clinic in Ormond Beach is proud to also be acknowledged as a Gold Level Cat Friendly Practice (CFP) by the AAFP. This designates that our practice has gone above and beyond to provide our feline patients the best, most stress-free care possible.

In 2015 the practice was purchased by Dr. Amber Carter and her husband, Kenny Carter. Dr. Carter was an associate veterinarian with Cat Care Clinic from 2007 to 2010, returning in 2014. She is currently in the process of preparing for board certification in feline practice as well. The entire team is excited to continue the tradition of being the local leader in feline medicine.
